Our Story | Moreno Boxing
Founded by amateur boxing champion Carlos Moreno, Moreno Boxing has grown from outdoor classes into a technical boxing gym, training home, and community in Hackney.
About us
Moreno Boxing was founded in 2010 by Carlos Moreno. What began as small group classes and personal training sessions in a park in Southeast London quickly grew into a committed boxing community.
By 2015, after growing through London South Bank University, Moreno Boxing secured its long-term home in Dalston by acquiring GoFit LTD. In 2021, the gym moved to a larger Stamford Works facility, allowing classes, training programs, and Fight Camp events to expand.

The journey
Each move kept the same purpose: technical coaching, honest training, and a community that helps people become who they want to be.
Moreno Boxing began with small group classes and personal training sessions led by amateur boxing champion Carlos Moreno.
The community expanded into the London South Bank University Sports Centre, giving the gym a stronger base for growth.
Moreno Boxing acquired GoFit LTD in Dalston, taking on the lease, equipment, and client base to establish a home in Hackney.
After lockdown, the gym moved into a larger Stamford Works facility and expanded classes, training programs, and Fight Camp events.

About Carlos Moreno
Carlos began boxing at 15 and had his first amateur bout in 2007 at 18. After a strong run of victories, he reached the National Novice Championship semi-finals and went on to win gold at the Haringey Box Cup in 2009.
His amateur career finished in 2014 with 34 fights and the Elite Portuguese National Title in his final bout.
Carlos reached the National Novice Championship semi-finals, won the North West London Elite title, reached the London finals of the Elite ABAs, and finished his amateur career by winning the Elite Portuguese National Title.
He trained and sparred around high-level professionals including Conor Benn and Ohara Davies while working with Tony Sims and Peter Sims at Matchroom Boxing.
Carlos is now a qualified professional boxing trainer, has coached elite fighters and public figures, and most recently worked in Ohara Davies' corner against Adam Azim in 2024.
Elite Middleweight BXGP
In December 2025, Carlos was featured as the BXGP Elite Middleweight English champion after returning to Cape Verde with the belt he won in England.
The visit fulfilled a promise to children in the Casa Lata neighbourhood: if he won the championship, he would bring the belt home to show them that they could achieve great things too. The trip also supported new youth boxing projects, including open-air training and competition screenings designed to inspire the next generation.

Pro boxing
After his amateur career, Carlos trained in professional boxing environments, sparring and working around names including Conor Benn, Ohara Davies, Nigel Benn, Shannon Briggs, Dereck Chisora, David Haye, and Teddy Atlas.
He later focused fully on coaching, working with professional fighters and public figures including Professor Green, Andrew Garfield, and Richard Ayoade.
